PC Engines APU2 Bios Update

Hallo zusammen :)

Da einige vermutlich wie ich auch eine APU2 im Einsatz haben, gibt es von mir heute eine kleine Anleitung, wie man das BIOS auf den aktuellen Stand bringen kann. Das BIOS lässt sich direkt von FreeBSD aus einspielen. Hier die benötigten Sachen:
  • Aktuelles BIOS (zu finden auf der Homepage von pcengines.ch) [1]
  • Die beiden Tools flashrom [2] und dmidecode [3]
Installiert man die das Paket flashrom via pkg install flashrom, so wird auch dmidecode installiert.

Das ZIP Archiv enthält die Datei apu2_v4.0.7.rom welche die Firmware darstellt.

Zuerst kann man sich das aktuelle BIOS der APU2 anzeigen lassen:

Zur Sicherheit kann man auch ein Backup der Firmware auslesen und speichern:

Das aufspielen erfolgt mit dem Befehl:

Hat das aufspielen geklappt, sollte man einen Neustart des Systems durchführen. Danach sollte der Befehl dmidecode -t bios die neue Version anzeigen:

Sehr gut zu erkennen ist die geänderte Versionsanzeige und das Release Datum.

Sollte es beim aufspielen Probleme geben und die APU2 ist gebrickt, so kann man folgendes Notfall-Kit spi1a verwenden. [4]

Negativ und ist die noch immer und wahrscheinlich "ewig" fehlende Unterstützung von ECC-RAM!

Man hat sich da mit der APU2C4 bzgl. ECC-RAM zu weit aus dem Fenster gelehnt. Genau genommen ist die Zeit der APU2 schon vorbei und
der negative Aspekt verliert ständig an Bedeutung.
