Lasst uns mal Laufwerke "benchmarken"

Hallo,

hatte mir gerade noch eine preiswerte 2,5 Zoll Notebookfestplatte zugelegt, Samsung HM640JJ, 640 GB, 7200 rpm, 16 MB Cache,
von deren Tempo ich dann doch sehr erfreulich überrascht war, als ich dann erst mal einmal komplett mit dd drüber gegangen bin.
Ist zwar noch längst nicht so schnell, wie eine SSD, aber für BSDler, die ein neues Laufwerk suchen, wären ja unter BSD gemessene Werte wohl nicht so ganz uninteressant.
System ist ein FreeBSD 8.2-PRERELEASE amd64, das Laufwerk wird über ada angesprochen.

Diese relativ preiswerte 2,5 Zoll SAMSUNG HM640JJ Notebookfestplatte ist jedenfalls erfreulich flott.

Ich habe gelesen, dass deine Festplatte über ada angesprochen wird. Da ich in meinem Rechner auch SATA-Platten habe, frage ich mich, ob es Vorteile hat, sie über ada anzubinden. Aktuell ist es bei mir nicht der Fall. Geht es automatisch oder sind Konfigurationen noch nötig?

Ich denke die Unterschiede sagen alles. Besonders da bei vertex die Transferraten unabhängig von der Position auf der Platte sind, spricht für eine anderweitige Begrenzung.

Beim Einbau viel auf, dass auch die alte Platte eine Seagate Momentus war, nämlich eine 5400.3. Neben der schnelleren Drehzahl bietet die neue Platte auch NCQ und eine nicht weiter beschriebene Anti-Schock Funktion.

In Tests wird die Platte als sehr leise beschrieben (während die 7200.2 noch sehr laut gewesen sein soll). Und ich kann auf jeden Fall bestätigen, dass die Platte deutlich leiser ist.

Bei der Geschwindigkeit liegt sie hinter den Werten von Fusselbär, ist aber zumindest in der gleichen Größenordnung.

Im Vergleich zur [post=219157]Vorgängerplatte[/post] ist sie sowohl gemessen als auch gefühlt mehr als doppelt so schnell. Besonders bemerkbar macht sich das beim Booten und beim Erststart von Programmen.
 
So, hier mal die Platte in meinem Notebook. Es ist die Lenovo Standard-Platte und sie ist ist subjektiv sehr langsam. Ich überlege daher sie auszutauschen. Es ist eine Hitachi HTS545032B9A300:
