Weil ich gerade wieder eine Nachricht bekommen habe nach dem Support meiner Hardware und ich dazu keinen passenden Thread gefunden habe, mache ich mal einen auf. Hier kommen dmesg's und sonst. Hardware Support Infos seitens BSD rein.

Für mich fühlt sich so an als ob die Grafikbeschleunigung funktioniert und die Konsole läuft im Framebuffer rasend schnell. Glxinfo meldet ja, glxgears ca. 60fps.

Nvidia Quadro Grafik (das Board bootet nicht ohne Grafik, zumindest hab ichs nicht geschafft)

Funktioniert ganz gut, smb lesen wirespeed, smb sync schreiben ~37MB/s (ich vermute das ist ok). Und ja, die Konfig ist alles andere als optimal für nen Heimserver, aber die Sachen sind nunmal da und ich war bisher zu faul, die bei Ebay reinzustellen. Und der Verkaufsthread hier hat nix gebracht. :)

Klassischer BIOS-Boot ist auf dem Board eine Qual. FreeBSDs /boot/loader ist grottenlahm, der gute GRUB gibt erst eine Unmenge Fehler, kommt dann aber. UEFI-Boot funktioniert allerdings problemlos, man braucht aber auf FreeBSD 10.2 diesen Patch: http://deponie.yamagi.org/freebsd/patches/skylake_10.2/efifb_late_init.patch

Derzeit läuft das FreeBSD mit Intels offiziellen e1000-Kernelmodul, da FreeBSDs Variante noch keine Unterstützung für die Sunrise-Point NICs hat. Die müsste allerdings in den nächsten Wochen kommen.

Und zum Schluss noch meine wenig professionelle Leistungseinschätzung einmal in Kopie:

Vorweg:
- Alle Angaben beziehen sich auf das Gesamtsystem. Das ist gerade
  bei den Verbrauchsangaben relevant. In beiden Systemen steckt
  eine Geforce GTX 750TI, die mit ca. 40W zu Buche schlägte. Falls
  Nvidia mitliest: Ein brauchbarer Powersave-Modi bei komplexeren
  Multimonitor-Setups wäre im Jahr 2015 schon schön. Selbst Intel
  bekommt das hin. In Happy steckt ein 80-Plus Bronze Netzteil von
  2007, in Pine ein passiv gekühltes 80-Plus Platinum Netzteil von
  2015. Happy hatte 16GB DDR3-1333 RAM, Pine hat 32GB DDR4-2133
  RAM.
- Der Taktunterschied zwischen den beiden CPUs besträgt 15%.
- Die Benchmarks sind "falsch", da sie bei eingeschalteten Power-
  management im unter X11 laufenden System durchgeführt wurden.
  Es ging allerdings auch nur im das Abbilden der Dimensionen.

Fazit:
- Pine mit der Skylake-CPU ist bedeutend energieeffizienter. Das
  Gesamtsystem verbraucht idle 15W weniger als Happy, unter Last
  sind es sogar 25W. Das bei einer gleichzeitig deutlich höheren
  Leistung.
- Bei hochoptimiertem Code, wo sich Generationen an mehr oder weniger
  fähigen Programmieren ausgetobt haben, ist der Unterschied zwischen
  beiden CPUs gering. Sowohl bei pigz und pixz berägt der Unterschied
  fast nur die Taktdifferenz. Bei pigz sind es immerhin noch ~3,5%
  darüber hinaus, bei pixz so gut wie nichts.
- Klassicher Code ohne umfangreiche Optimierungen gewinnt schon mehr.
  FreeBSDs "make buildworld" 40%, das io-lastigere "make buildkernel"
  sogar ~60%. beide Läufe wurden auf einem tmpfs durchgeführt, hier
  spielt vielleicht der deutlich schnellere DDR4-RAM mit hinein. Man
  munkelt ja auch, dass Skylake einen deutlich breiten Ringbus hat,
  der hier auch punkten könnte.
- Die deutlich bessere AVX-Engine von Skylake kann bei libx264 mal
  richtig die Musklen spielen lassen. 41% Mehrleistung sich auch
  hier recht beeindruckend.

=> Die DAU-Gazetten waren nur wenig angetan, da Skylake angeblich zu
   wenig Mehrleistung bringt und den spätestens seit Sandy Bridge
   diagnostizierten "Stillstand" fortsetzt. Das Gam0r-Gesocks stimmt
   dann gleich ein, die Meinung ist, dass man schon Core 2 Quad kaum
   aufrüsten muss und Sandy Bridge sowie Ivy Bridges erst recht nicht.
   Wenn man nur hochoptimierte Software, wie z.B. das in Benchmarks
   oft genutzte WinRAR oder den dämlichen Cinebench nutzt, mag das
   für Sandy Bridge stimmen. Ebenso für die meisten Spiele, die eh
   nicht am CPU-Limit hängen. Wer aber ernsthaftet arbeitet, kann
   schon nennenswert gewinnen. Zudem sollte man die beeindruckende
   Energieeffizienz im Auge behalten. Natürlich müsste man für ein
   komplettes Bild weitere Benchmarks durchführen und auch die laut
   Intel verbesserte Virtualisierungsunterstützung ist interessant.

Ach ja, da es für einige vielleicht interessant ist: Die verbaute Almost-PCI-Brücke ist zumindest gut genug, dass eine Audiotrack Prodigy HD2 Soundkarte einwandfrei funktioniert. Und die hat schon gerne mal Zicken gemacht.

Mir rollen sich ja immer so ein bisschen die Fußnägel hoch bei den Speicherdichten, die heutzutage mit ungepufferten RAM-Modulen gefahren werden.

Deswegen mal ne grundlegende Frage: Ist das mit den neuen RAM-Generationen komplett verschwunden, dass man ungepuffert nur kleine Speichermengen mit möglichst wenig Modulen realisieren soll? Bei 32GB ungepuffertem RAM sträubt sich irgendwas in mir. :)
 
Ich hätte gern den Maximalausbau von 64 Gigabyte auf 4 Modulen genommen, aber leider sind "dumme" Module mit 16GB noch unbezahlbar, sofern man sie überhaupt aufgetrieben bekommt. Da haben die Desktop-Varianten des Sockel 2011v3 den Vorteil von 4 Speicherkanälen und damit 8 Modulen.

Kommt halt auch stark drauf an, was man damit machen will. Auf dem Desktop wäre zumindest ECC zwar schön zu haben, aber das bedeutet dann gleich einen Xeon mit einem entsprechenden Board. Das ist oft deutlich teurer, schlechter ausgestattet und so weiter. Außerdem, sofern Intel überhaupt eine 4GHz-Variante als Xeon bringt, wird die höchstwahrscheinlich einen brutalen "Topmodellaufschlag" haben. Daher unter dem Strich mal wieder: Kein Spaß ohne Risiko.

Irgendwelche Dinge, bei denen es auf Datenkonsistenz ankommt, werde ich damit aber auch nicht rechnen. Dann lieber echte Serverhardware mit ECC und voll gepuffert.

ipmi(4) habe ich noch nicht enabled; das kommt beim naechsten vor Ort Termin mal mit dran.
 
Weil er 2.4GHz als "Modellbezeichnung" hat, aber in "turbo" mit 2880MHz rumkommt? Ehrlich gesagt habe ich keine Ahnung und hat mich bisher auch nicht gejuckt. ;)
 
Naja, spezifiziert ist der im Turbo nur bis 2.66GHz. Edit: Und selbst dann sieht man den Turbo AFAIK nicht im OS.

Habt ihr mal geguckt, ob die Firewall zufällig ein Plexiglasfenster, Wasserkühlung und interne LED-Beleuchtung gekriegt hat? Vielleicht habt ihr euch ein Overclocker-Kiddie eingetreten. .-)

NAS und diverse VMs halt. Der 2630v2 ist auch nur drin, weil ich den fast umsonst gekriegt hab, sonst wäre es wahrscheinlich ein kleinerer.

Mein HauptPC mit dem ich auch recht viel Spiele -> Windows 8.1, bald Windows 10, mein Thinkpad T60 mit CoreDuo - Windows 7 und Gentoo aus Gründen.

Aber ich nutze auf dem Sofa gerne mein Thinkpad X31, zwar recht alt, aber ideal um nen bisschen zu chatten oder 2,3 nachrichten zu lesen. Das Format ist einfach Super, und es macht nichts wenn doch mal etwas passiert, z.B. wenn einer unserer Hunde zu wild rumtobt ;)
Für psy (Jabber) ist OpenBSD absolut okay, gebrowst wird mit Chromium oder dillo.
(Ich habe das gleiche Modell auch nochmal mit Gentoo, was noch etwas performanter läuft, aber das bauen von Updates e.t.c. dauert u.U. etwas :D )

Villeicht ja auch ganz interressant hier etwas ältere Hardware zu sehen - der post ist mit dem Chromium unter OpenBSD erstellt.
 
XMG U505 = Clevo P751ZM mit Nvidia GTX970M im UEFI Modus und von einem USB Stick gebootet. BIOS 1.05.01a macht mir Probleme weil ich während des Boot den Loader nicht sehe - nur schwarzer Bildschirm. Boot des kernels gibt dann aber wieder Ausgaben. Das Anpassen von Boot-Optionen oder Eingabe von GELI Passwörtern geht höchstens blind. USB Support muss mit Workaround kern.cam.boot_delay="20000" für Boot-Medien benutzt werden. Nvidia Treiber macht keine Probleme weil es ohne Optimus daher kommt. Sound klappt, bei WLAN habe ich ein nicht unterstütztes Modul verbaut.

Wenn jemand einen Tipp gegen den schwarzen Bildschirm hat (Loader), gebe ich meine volle Aufmerksamkeit.

Hier noch ein Xiaomi Air 12,5" 1. Gen. Was nicht funktioniert Grafikbeschleunigung, da ja Skylake nicht bewendet wird. Leider hat das auch Auswirkungen auf dem HDMI Ausgang. Das (Multi)Touchpad funktioniert ebenfalls nicht. Viel mehr Anschlüsse hat das Teil auch nicht. Kein Ethernet, Sondertasten scheinen nicht alle konfiguriert zu sein, Beleuchtung geht jedenfalls.
Natürlich muckte der Installer, ein paar Nullen an der richtigen Stelle und der Bootloader grüßt einen. 7.1 wollte nicht, warum auch immer.
