GraKa - Frage zu amdgpu und xf86-video-amdgpu

Hallo

ich habe nochmal eine Frage zur wunderbaren Welt der GraKas unter FreeBSD.
Für AMD gibt's ja drm-kmod mit amdgpu und es gibt xf86-video-amdgpu. Braucht man beide Treiber oder reicht der DRM Treiber? Was ist der technische Hitergrund, daß man ggf. beide braucht.

Bei Intel heißt es im Internet: Wenn drm dann kein xf86-video-intel (uralt)
Bei amdgpu heißt es im Internet: Beide insatllieren.

Der Zusammenhang zwischen beiden bei ati/amd würde mich auch interessieren. Ich weiss nur, dass ich beides habe und es funktioniert. Ich glaube, dass xf86-video-ati ohne drm-kmod gar nicht funktioniert.

xf86-video-amdgpu dient zur beschleunigung der xorg umgebung mit AMDGPU Grafikkarten. Dieser ist aber nach der Installation nicht direkt aktiv, da der standard modesetting treiber automatisch geladen wird (wie bei intel) und man eigentlich keine Probleme habe sollte.

Wer aber extras wie z.B. FreeSync nutzen möchte muss eben xf86-video-amdgpu installieren und aktivieren. Man aktiviert das modul in dem man eine /usr/local/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/amdgpu.conf erstellt mit (in meinen Fall) folgenden Werten:

TearFree und Skalierung funktionen. Hab aber irgendwo mal gelesen das versucht wird FreeSync in den modesetting treiber mit einzubinden. Ob die 2 oben genanneten Funktionen auch schon drine sein koennten weiss Ich leider nicht.

Existiert da eine komplette Auflistung?
Hab mal geducked... Nichts gefunden.

Wie lauten die entsprechenden Eintäge für radeonkms?
Hatte mit readonkms nie was am Hut, daher weiss ich nicht wie die entsprechenden Eintraege lauten.

Ist das wirklich so? Also ich habe bei meiner Radeon HD 4850 das Gefühl, dass xf86-video-ati automatisch geladen wird. Ich habe keinerlei Einträge zur "Aktivierung". Ich möchte dazu mal die Xorg.0.log posten. Wie man sieht, werden die modules "ati" und "radeon" geladen, RADEON listet später eine Menge Features auf. Oder täusche ich mich da?

Er meint, dass es hier auf den Treiber ankommt. Anderer Treiber, andere Funktionsweise und entweder manche Features j/n grob gesagt.

Wenn du dann eine bestimmte Karte hast, du Treiber A nehmen musst (weil Treiber B nicht geht), dann kriegst du logischerweise die Features von Treiber B nicht.

Ja, das meinte ich. Die HD 4850 ist eine Karte mit Terascale-Architektur. Die aktuellen Karten haben GCN- und die darauf basierende RDNA-Architektur. Das sind komplett unterschiedliche Treiber bzw. Codepfade im Treiber.

Falls es in dem Zusammenhang jemanden interessiert, habe ich gerade ETQW (Linux) auf der HD 4850 getestet. Soll angeblich auf einer verbesserten Doom3-Engine basieren. Qualität ist exzellent, läuft aber leider zu langsam, was aber wohl an dem Single-Core-Prozessor des PC's liegen dürfte.
Die Frage lautet natürlich, inwieweit das Rückschlüsse auf modernere Karten/Chips von AMD zulässt. Ich kann mir jedenfalls persönlich nicht vorstellen, dass diese ganzen Spiele z.B. auf einer Polaris-Karte oder einem integrierten AMD-Chip nicht laufen würden, wenn sie auf einer alten Radeon HD 4850 laufen.
