Hi Leute,

hab auf meinem Testsystem (P3 500Mhz, 256MB, 16MB Riva TNT2) mal 5.2.1 RC2 installiert. Beim Versuch X zustarten friert mir der Rechner immer ein.
Ich denke nicht, dass es an meiner X-Konfiguration liegt, da ich inzwischen schon eine andere Karte (Matrox Millenium G200) ausprobiert hab und auch dort der gleiche Fehler auftritt.
Aktuell habe ich jetzt versucht den NVIDIA_Treiber aus den Ports zu nutzen - auch ohne Erfolg. Gebaut hab ich den Treiber übrigens mit WITH_FREEBSD_AGP.
X hab ich dann mal ganz einfach mit XFree86 -configure konfiguriert, was bisher eigentlich immer anstandslos funktioniert hat.
Das System ist neu installiert und den Kernel habe ich bisher nicht angefasst. ;o)

Ich poste hier trotzdem mal meinen dmesg und die XF86Config.
Falls jemand eine Idee hat, woran es liegen könnte. wäre ich für jeden Hinweis sehr dankbar!

Die letzte Meldung, die ich vor dem einfrieren kriege ist die, dass er /var/log/XFree86.0.log als Logfile nutzt!
Da steht aber auch nach dem notwendigen Hardreset nix drin!
 
Kann es sein dass in der XF86Config keine Auflösungen definiert sind? (Auch wenn er dann meckern aber nich abstürzen würde)

Ich hatte ein ähnliches Problem, mein Recenr hat sich damals immer aufgehange als er die Modelines des Monitors abgefragt hat. Versuch mal die Modelines selbst einzutragen oder nimm ein Kabel auf dem der Pin zur abgfrage der Modelines fehlt.

Hab jetzt auf dem System auf eine andere Platte mal schnell 4.9 draufgeschmissen und siehe da, mein X startet mit der indentischen XF86Config ohne Absturz!
Muss jetzt mal noch den NVIDIA-Treiber testen.....

Hab nochmal unter 5.2.1 RC2 in XF86Config die Auflösungen eingetragen - selber Fehler! Daran kann es also wohl auch nicht liegen....
 
OK, muss mal schnell im Handbuch suchen gehn.......
Würde mich aber ehrlich gesagt wundern, denn in 4.9 scheint es ja auch ohne Modlines zu funzen...

Bei mir ist default immer mit acpi, was probleme macht, wenn jemand anderes die Maschine bootet.
Zum Vergrößern anklicken....

kann man, du musst nur in der /boot/device.hints folgendes setzen:

hint.acpi.0.disabled="1"

gleichzeitig könntest du auch apm aktivieren...
 
versuch mal
Options NvAgp="2"

und poste mal
# sysctl -a | grep hw.nvidia

sonst ist meine erfahrung mit den NVidia treibern , dass nvagp nen tick schneller ist als der freebsd-apg.
Wenn du nen neuen kernel baust muss du neu installieren, wenn du nen Portupgrade nmachst und der am XF86 rumbastelt auch, weil dann das Glx weg is!

das mit dem acpi is echt ne leckeres problem! aus hilft oft!
->-> Weiss einer Nen roadbook wie man das acpi optimal einstellen kann?

ACPI hatte ich schonmal ausgeschaltet. Das hat leider keine Besserung gebracht.
Werde später mal den Eintrag:
Option "NvAGP" "2" (So steht's inder NVIDIA-Readme) austesten.
Aber wie bereits erwähnt: Das Problem tritt nicht nur beim Nvidia Treiber auf, sondern auch mit anderen Karten.
 
Hmmmm, das Hirn wird wohl doch langsam weich.......

Es war dann doch das ACPI, das immernoch aktiv war.
