verschiedene X einstellungen, keyboard..

hi!

ich hab eben meine X bei FreeBSD 4.10 konfiguriert.
allerdings hab ich eine extrem grosse aufloesung obwohl ich immer 1280x1024 gew?hlt hab.
ausserdem seh ich auf dem monitor nur ein viertl meines browsers und sonstigem "desktop", ansonsten muss ich immer scrollen, weils so riesig ist - woran liegt das ?

achja, in meiner XF86Config steht unter keyboard bei Option XkbModel "pc105", trozdem kann ich keine umlaute etc. w?hlen?? (<- sieht man eh =)).
weiss jemand woran das wohl liegen kann?????

langsam bin ich am verzweifeln, 2 stunden lang permanent verschieden konfigurationen durchprobieren... ^ ^ .....

wuerd mich freun, wenn wer was weiss..

Wegen den Umlauten, daß hat weniger mit der XF86CONFIG zu tun.

Ist das Problem nur unter X(Browser) oder auch in der Shell?

Wenn nur unter X, dann probier mal deinem Browser ein anständiges Charakterencoding einzuprügeln utf-8 ist zwar fein, leider meist absolut grottig implementiert. Versuch es mit ISO-8859-15 (western mit ¤-Zeichen).

Sollte es in der Shell schon nicht klappen, so solltest du versuchen die Umgebungsvariablen (deutsche Locales) richtig zu setzen, je nach Shell entweder
per

export LANG=de_DE.ISO08895-15
export MM_CHARSET=ISO08859-15

in der globalen oder lokalen Profildatei.

oder per

setenv LANG de_DE.ISO08895-15
setenv MM_CHARSET ISO08859-15

in der .cshrc

Es gibt ne bessere Methode in der man jedem User per vipw eine User-Klasse zuweist und die /etc/login.conf entsprechend bearbeitet. So kann man verschiedene Locales je nach login verwenden.
