FreeBSD: Frenzy, die FreeBSD-Mini-LiveCD

Wer sich für eine Mini-LiveCD mit 200 MB (3" CD) interessieren sollte, dem sei Frenzy, ein Projekt des ukrainischen Entwicklers Sergei Mozhaisky, empfohlen. Frenzy basiert in der aktuellen Version 0.3 auf FreeBSD 5.2.1 und enthält 600 MB software, durch geom_ugz auf 200 MB komprimiert.

Die Liste der Applikationen umfasst 400 Positionen, darunter gcc, Editoren, Network-tools, browser, ICR-clients, XFree86, fluxbox usw, einsehbar unter Softwarelist frenzy 0.3

Frenzy ist als einfaches Administrations- und Notfalltool gedacht und kommt mit 32 MB und ohne Festplatte aus. In der nächsten Version 0.4 (für den Oktober geplant) steht ein Update auf FreeBSD 5.4, weitere Software, weitere Sprachen (Frenzy kann in Russisch und Englisch benutzt werden) und sogar eine SPARC-Variante an.

Ich habe mir sagen lassen das solche CDs nicht gerade gesund für ein Laufwerk sind. Was für mich auch durch die Umwucht logisch klingt.

Update:

Wie Sergei mitteilte sind die Arbeiten für Version 0.4 in vollem Gange, die SPARC-Variante wurde letzte Woche in Angriff genommen, ein Update auf 5.4 als Basis (momentan 5.2.1) ist im Fluss.

Die SPARC-Variante wird weniger apps enthalten, da nicht alle bestehenden ports aus der Softwarelist auf SPARC nutzbar sind. Wer zusätzliche Applikationen wünscht, der solle sich hier oder direkt auf der Frenzy-site melden.

Frenzy LiveCD

Frenzy is a “system administrator portable instrument”, LiveCD based on FreeBSD OS, wich allows the administrator to boot from it and get fully functional system with wide variety of software for tunning, testing and analyzing the network, testing computer hardware and much more.
