X-Server auf ECS320 Notebook läuft nicht

Moin Moin,
ich habe folgendes Problem:
Der X-Server läuft nicht auf meinem Notebook. ;'(

System:
Elitegroup ECS320 Notebook
VIA CLE 266 Chipsatz
Grafik: VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP bzw Castle Rock Onboard-Karte(Windows sagt S3, Unix Castle Rock) Shared Memory, auf 16MB eingestellt(BIOS)

OS: FreeBSD-5.2.1


Unter Windows alles easy, diverse Linux Distris laufen auch einwandfrei(Auflösung 1024x768 kein prob).
Nur FreeBSD will nicht. Fehlermeldung:Screen not found.
Ich habe mehrere Grafik-Treiber getestet(Generic VGA oder Vesa als erstes) no chance. Ein Update auf die letzte XFree86-Version brachte auch keine Änderung. im Netz/Forumsuche habe ich nichts gefunden. Hat jemand eine Idee?

P.S.: ACPI war abgeschaltet.
 
"screen not found" kann mehrere ursachen haben. nicht bloss, dass dein treiber nicht gefunden wurde.
du sagtest, dass einige linux-distries schonmal die karte erkannt haben? dann nimm doch einfach die einstellungen der xorg.conf bzw. xf86config und bau die bei freebsd rein?

ansonsten: dmesg her, xf86config her, xorg.conf her, /var/log/X.log, fehlermeldung her. ansonsten find ich freebsd persoenlich auf der konsole auch ganz schnuckelig ;-)

erstmal danke fuer Deine Anregungen.
Ich habe heute nochmal Slachware installiert, dann FreeBSD-5.3 und 5.2.1.Die Xfree bzw. Xorg.conf zu kopieren brachte keinen Erfolg. Wenn ich das alles richtig interpretiere benutzt Linux den Vesatreiber mit Framebuffer. Unter FreeBSD gibt es diesen leider anscheinend nicht. Wenn ich den Framebuffer im Xfree/Xorg-Config-Menue auswaehle gibt es beim X-Start den Fehler das der Treiber nicht vorhanden ist. Sieht so aus als wenn ich doch Linux statt FreeBSD auf mein Notebook spielen muss, da ich auch die Grafische Oberflaeche brauche.

sorry das ich mich erst jetzt melde.
Ich habe es frueher leider nicht geschafft(Arbeit am Samstag, Freundin).

Die xfree.conf von slackware hatte ich getestet, kein erfolg.
Die wiki-sachen habe ich heute getestet, musste erstmal wieder FreeBSD-5.3 installiern. Ergebnis: neue fehlermeldung, diesmal stimmen horizontale und vertikale ablenk-frequenz nicht. ich habe mehrere ausprobiert ohne erfolg.
ich habe mir gerade den source der aktuellen xorg-release geladen und bin gerade dabei sie zu installieren. das wird wohl noch ein bischen dauern, daher melde ich mich morgen erst wieder.

es wundert mich etwas, dass das file einmal unter linux tut, dann unter bsd aber seinen dienst verweigert. bist du sicher dass der auch das config-file genommen hat?
hast du X schon per parameter gesagt, dass der das file nehmen soll?

das neu compilieren von xorg-6.8.2 brachte auch keinen erfolg. ich habe die letzten 2 stunden im netz gegoogelt, und ein paar seiten gefunden mit dem gleichen problem. eine loesung hatte leider niemand. inder xfree/xorg version fuer linux wird der cle266 chipsatz( mit castle rock grafikkarte) unterstuetzt unter freebsd nicht. zumindest steht es so im netz.
zu slackware xfree-config-file: ich hatte X unter freebsd noch nicht konfiguriert, sondern gleich den slackware-xconfig-file nach /etc/X11/ kopiert, von daher gehe ich davon aus das X diesen auch benutzt hat. Ich habe x auch mit "X -config /etc/X11/xorg.conf" gestartet, die fehler sind die gleichen. in der Xorg.0.log die ich hier poste ist die horizontale-ablenk-frequenz das prob. wenn ich die einstellungen aendere ist es mal die vertikale dann wieder die horizontale oder sogar beide. an meiner mangelnden kenntnis duerfte es nicht liegen, da ich freebsd schon auf mehrern rechnern mit unterschiedlicher grafik-hardware installiert habe. es gab zwar hier und ein problem aber zum schluss lief alles. ok aber nu die files.

irritierend finde ich die letzte zeile "VGA BIOS image is wrong !! CheckSum = 5f20f1"
sieht so aus als wenn der treiber fuer eine andere karte waere, warum sollte er sonst die checksumme abfragen, wenn er nicht eine bestimmte karte erwartet? wenn du dir die slackware files anschaust siehst du das linux den vesa treiber benutzt und nicht den via treiber, um genau zu sein den "vesa framebuffer". auf der wiki-seite steht das es den framebuffer unter freebsd NICHT GIBT! ich werde jetzt noch mal suse-linux installieren und schauen mit welchem treiber es funzt.

Also: Auch unter FreeBSD gibt es einen vesa-Treiber, siehe gleichnamige Manpage. Wenn der mit deiner Karte nicht funktioniert, dann ist das schon ein ziemlich spezielles Gerätchen. Interessant wäre aber auch noch ein pciconf -lv.

Noch ein paar Lösungsvorschläge ins Blaue hinein:
  • Mach ein Xorg -configure und schau nach, was dort als xorg.conf rauskommt.
  • Du solltest die X.org-Module (die .o-Dateien) deines Linux auch dem X.org deines FreeBSD unterschieben können (funktioniert z.B. mit den Matrox-Treibern einwandfrei).
  • Probiere XFree 4.5.0, ist vielleicht schon in den Ports. Da sollen ein paar neue Grafiktreiber dazugekommen sein (habe ich zumindest gelesen). Die X.org-Fritzen haben sich in ihren neuen Releases halt auf wichtigere Dinge, wie zum Beispiel Schatten- und Transparenz-Effekte, konzentriert.

ich habe mich vielleicht falsch ausgedrueckt, ich meinte nicht den vesa-treiber sondern den framebuffer, den es nicht gibt. in den freebsd files wird der vesa treiber geladen. unter linux der vesa-framebuffer(zumindest wird es in den files so geschreiben). deine anderen tips werde ich spaeter ausprobieren, da gerade suse auf dem notebook installiert wird.

So, da bin ich wieder.
Suse 8.0 hat nicht gefunzt, also habe Suse 9.0 installiert, funzt.
Einstellungen:

Grafikkarte: Vesa
Treiber: Vesa

Monitor: 1024x768/31-48KHz/60Hz
Aufloesung: 1024x768/16Bit

Ich werde morgen nochmal FreeBSD-5.2.1/FreeBSD-5.3 oder FreeBSD-5.4-Beta mit den Einstellungen testen. Fuer heute reicht es mir mit installieren.

Ja, er tut es endlich. Meine config:
FreeBSD-5.2.1, XFree86-4.5.0.
In dieser Konfiguartion geht es. Im Moment benutze ich noch den Vesa-Treiber. Ich werde gleich den VIA-Treiber testen.
Vielen Dank an alle die geholfen haben.

Nach 2 Monaten endlich FreeBSD auf dem Notebook.
I'm so happy. :)
