Ich fürchte, da läuft alles wie es soll. Zwei Punkte:

1. Der R100 ist ATIs erster moderner Grafikchip gewesen. Im Jahr 2000 war er Seitens der Hardware sehr interessant, was die grottigen Treiber leider kaputtmachen. Der R100 und sein Nachfolger R200 sind sozusagen der Ursprung des Mythos der angeblich so grützigen ATI-Treiber. Außerdem war seine Hardware zwar hochinteressant, aber am Markt vorbeientwickelt. Das 2x3 Design (2 Ausgabepixel und 3 Texturpixel pro Takt) war an sich schon überlegen, aber da kaum ein Spiel jemals von dieser Kombination profitieren konnte, war sie in der Praxis der Konkurrenz unterlegen und nur ein Achtungserfolg. Kurz gesagt, die Radeon 7000 Serie war recht langsam. Du hast eine stark abgespeckte Version ohne T&L und nur mit 64 Bit Speicherinterface. Die war schon als sie neu war zu lahm für alles interessante, Quake II mag sie schaffen, aber bei Quake III dürfte sie schon arge Probleme haben. Kurz um, heute ist jede Low-End Karte deutlich schneller.

2. GLXGears ist kein Benchmark. Das Ding misst lediglich, wie schnell du Puffer tauschen kannst, was direkt vom VRAM abhängig ist. Du hast lahmen RAM, wenig davon und eine schlechte Anbindung. 1 FPS ist vielleicht extrem wenig, aber erstmal keine wirkliche Aussage über die Geschwindigkeit.

Daher:

- Erstmal ist "Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"" eine schlechte Idee. Der Chip ist wie oben erklärt in Sachen 3D ein absoluter Krüppel. EXA kann zwar theoretisch über 2D-Einheiten rechnen, praktisch nutzt es aber immer, wenn verfügbar, 3D-Einheiten. Du beißt dir selbst in den Hintern, erzwinge besser das alte XAA. Denn die 2D-Engine der alten Radeons ist auch heute noch Weltklasse.

- Setze mal die Umgebungsvariable "MESA_DEBUG" auf 1, starte "glxgears -info" und lasse es ein paar MInuten laufen. Die Ausgabe stellst du hier ein.

- Es wäre schön, wenn du eine richtige OpenGL-Anwendung testen könntest. Zum Beispiel die Quake II Demo oder was in die Richtung. Das würde Gewissheit geben, ob glxgears nun Recht hat oder nicht.

Das die Grafikkarte nicht das wahre ist, ist mir schon klar :).
OpenArena unter Windows funktioniert, unter FreeBSD viel zu langsam, das Menu laesst sich nicht einmal vernuenftig steuern.
