5.3Beta6 schleicht vor sich hin :(

Hab nen Athlon 1,4 mit 512 ram, aber FreeBSD 5.3Beta6 schleicht nur so vor sich hin :( (beta4 und beta5 waren jedoch auch nicht schneller)

Es ist so schlimm das zBsp. bei http://www.bsdforen.de/showthread.php?p=53384#post53384
das Spiel zu ner Dia Show wird.

Nur zur Verdeutlichung wie schlimm es ist ;) Ansich spiele ich nicht aber der Rechner geht schon in die Knie wenn ich nen Fenster hektisch bewege :(

Benutze xfce4 und den 4.4 Scheduler.

Dachte die haben das debug zeugs schon rausgenommen? Weiß jmd woran es liegen kann?
 
Ich glaube einiges liegt am Scheduler.
Unter amd64 nutze ich immer noch den SCHED_ULE, da mir das Geschleiche vom 4BSD ebenfalls nicht gefiel. Unter i386 (gleicher Rechner) hab ich zusätzlich zum 4BSD noch PREEMPTION im Kernel, was vielleicht ein wenig hilft, aber nicht viel.
Subjektiv ist der ULE immer noch schneller, allerdings hab' ich keine Benchmarks laufen lassen. Es ist aber unter amd64 nur mit ULE möglich, einen Film stotterfrei zu sehen während im Hintergrund ein make -j5 buildworld läuft.
 
Wurde nicht letztens erst im GENERIC von ULE wieder nach 4.4BSD gewechselt das der ULE Probleme unter Last hatte?
 
Ich hatte bisher noch keine Probleme unter Last. Diese Panics sind, glaube zumindest mich zu erinnern, nur im Zusammenhang mit PREEMPTION aufgetreten.
 
Hab den Kernel jetzt mit ULE neugebaut, es schleicht weiterhin :\

Speicherauslastung liegt bei 150 megs / 512
CPU Auslastung liegt bei dem Spiel so ca. bei 80%
CPU im idle: 10% alle paar sec kurz auf 60% hoch :X

Hab die Beta 5 am laufen und auf dem Laptop die Beta 6, beide mit dem ULE und ich kann mich eigentlich nicht beklagen.

Willste vieleicht mal meine Kernel konfig haben?
 
Bei mir machte ULE immer Probleme (Multiprozessor) -- Fenster froren ein bzw. die ganze Chose, jedit krachte gegen den Baum und und. Mit 4.4BSD lief es dann endlich wieder sauber.
 
Wie gesagt, sowohl ULE als auch 4BSD kriechen hier vor sich hin. Evl kommt FreeBSD ja mit meinem Chipsatz nicht klar? (AMD 760/761)

Sogar diese Antwort hier schreiben geht nicht flüssig, ab und zu hängt das Textfeld kurz, wie früher auf nem p100 :confused:

Wie bereits oben geschrieben hatte ich erst den 4BSD Scheduler, smp und apic waren da auskommentiert. Es lief trotzdem nicht vernünftig.
 
Ja eine Logitech Mx700 wieso?

Evl hab ich ja nur mal zu nem ungünstigen Zeitpunkt cvsuped. Ich hol mir mal die neuesten 5.3 Sourcen und bau Welt+Kernel.
 
So, neue Sourcen und neugebaut, ohne apic, smp und mit 4.4BSD.

Laaaangsaaam. Nur wieso, hat jmd anderes noch Beta6 und kann das bestätigen? Dann würd es ja bis 5.3 stable vorrüber gehen. Oder liegt es an meiner Config/Hardware?
 
Bei mir war das auch so. FreeBSD 5.3 Beta 6 istalliert und die Mühle kroch wie eine Schildkröte (50% CPU auslastung, wenn firefox und gkrelm auf Gnome lief) . Dann habe ich das ganze Debug-zeug aus dem Kernel herausgenommen und den Sheduler auf ULE umgestellt, jetzt geht er ab wie Schmidts Katze. Sogar (deutlich!!) schneller als FreeBSD 5.2.1 release mit angepasstem Kernel.
 
Habs mal ausprobiert, nen GENERIC kriecht genauso :\

Ist debug eigentlich noch im Rest der Base drin oder nicht? Ich dachte nicht?

Sonst noch jmd eine Idee?

EDIT: An meinen sonst üblichen Sündenbock ACPI liegt es auch nicht. (Das scheint bei meinem Epox Board sehr übel implementiert zu sein.)
