Große Datei transferieren freezed das System

Hallo zusammen,
ich habe hier Problem mit einem FreeBSD 10.3 Rechner der als NFS Server dient.
Leider bleibt das System komplett stehen falls „größere“ Dateien (mehrere hundert MB) auf den Server geschaufelt werden sollen. Gibt auch keine Kernelpanic, es freezed einfach. Es hilft nur noch harter Neustart. Das Problem tritt nur auf wenn der Client per USB Ethernetadapter verbunden ist, per Wlan funktioniert es (wenn auch langsamer).
Client ist ein Ubuntu 15.10.

Bis jetzt versucht:
In den logfiles steht nichts.
Lokal auf dem Server große Dateien kopieren geht einwandfrei.
Verschiedene nfs optionen (tcp, udp, v2/v3,…), System freezed immer.
File per SSH kopieren freezed das System auch.
RAM test (memtest86), keine Fehler.
Iperf läuft einwandfrei.
bonnie++ auf die Platten losgelassen, läuft einwandfrei.

Leider weiß ich nicht so recht was ich jetzt weiter tun könnte.
Hat hier jemand eine Idee?

Der gemeinsame Nenner scheint das em0 Interface zu sein. Kannst es ja mit 100Mbit/s anstelle von Gigabit nochmal testen, man em0 hat ggf. Tuningparameter parat. Testweise eine andere NIC verfügbar?
 
das ist generell sehr sonderbar. Ich habe am Institut mehrere Server unter FreeBSD 10.* (seit kurzem alle auf 10.3) laufen und keinerlei Probleme mit NFS. Bis auf einen, der aber (nicht nur wegen NFS) immer wieder aussteigt (eine Sun X4540) und rebootet werden muss. Und Daten schaufeln ist bei uns normal, es geht oft um etliche GB grosse Dateien... Ach, da war mal eine Option "ifconfig -tso nfe0"... Ich meine, das hat an der Sun X4540 was gebracht... Vielleicht bringt es was bei Dir...

Hast Du evtl. eine andere Netzwerkkarte, die Du mal testweise als Vergleich einstöpseln könntest?

Was für ein Mainboard nutzt Du denn?

Wenn Du statt des Netzwerk-Adapters eine andere Datenquelle, z. B. einen Stick oder eine Festplatte an denselben USB-Port hängst, kannst Du dann große Dateien auf den Server kopieren?
Und was hast Du sonst noch alles an USB angesteckt? Zieh das mal ab, wenn möglich. Vielleicht ist der Stromverbrauch zu hoch.

Mit USB Umsteckerei hat es meiner Einschätzung nach nichts zu tun. Jedoch kenne ich USB-Netzwerkadapter welche bei hohen Datenraten nach wenigen Sekunden den Dienst einstellen. Ein Rate-Limit hilft, jedoch betrifft es natürlich nur das Gerät welches via USB-Netzwerkadapter kommunizieren möchte. Mit einem kaputten USB-Netzwerkadapter am Client konnte ich bislang noch keinen Server abstürzen lassen

klingt nicht notwendigerweise überraschend... Wer weiss, was da passiert.

@mrtonic: Hats Du eine andere Möglichkeit als über USB/Ethernet vom Client zum Server zu kommen? z.B. über einen Switch, der mit em0 verbunden ist - dann benötigst Du keinen USB/Ethernet Adapter... Ach, da fällt mir ein, ein Freund hat einen Drucker über so einen Adapter mit dem LAN verbunden und hat immer wieder mal Probleme beim Drucken. Der Drucker wird nicht gefunden, bis man ein Repair Programm laufen lässt. Könnte mit diesem Adapter zu tun haben...

Ich würde mal einen Bug-Report schreiben. Allerdings man dafür wahrscheinlich Mitschnitte des Netzwerkverkehrs und eventuell ein wenig Kerneldebugging brauchen.
 
Hallo,

das hatte ich mal vor längerer Zeit. Da haben sich durch Verkabelungsprobleme gleichzeitig mehrere Platten eines ZFS Verbundes kurz ausgeklinkt und die Kiste stand auch sofort ohne einen Rülps von sich zu geben. Ich habe es nur am init der Festplatten gehört.

Mit einem Ubuntu, oder anderem Linux Client und integrierter Netzwerkkarte geht das aber?

Wenn du den Transfer anschmeisst wuerde ich mal auf dem Server gucken, was die Interrupts sagen:
vmstat -i

Und wenn das noch geht, ob die Netzwerkpakete bisher okay sind:
netstat -sI <netzwerk device>

Habe nochmal ein wenig herumprobiert.
Temperatur sollte passen.
TSO abschalten bringt auch nichts. Hatte ja auch extra mal NFS über UDP probiert und das hat auch nichts geändert.
Anderer Client (Mac) mit eingebauter NIC geht.

Von Kerneldebugging habe ich keine Ahnung, das wird vermutlich mit mir nicht sehr erfolgsbringend sein :D

Dann dachte ich mir baue ich ein kleines Script was fortwährend vmstat und netstat wegschreibt.
Und damit das ganze nicht einfach in irgendeinem cache hängen bleibt bis das System freezed, einfach mal ein sync(8) hinterher (keine Ahnung ob das so richtig Sinn ergibt).
Stellt sich heraus, wenn das Script läuft geht alles und man kann wieder größere Dateien auf den Server kopieren ohne freeze.
Nur mit sync(8) ohne etwas anderes in dauerschleife geht es nicht.

Okay. Das ist halb interessant, da er HPET statt dem meistens genutzten LAPIC wählt. Lass ihn uns mal auf LAPIC zwingen: sysctl kern.eventtimer.timer=LAPIC Das hat eine geringe Chance, dass das System dabei hängen bleibt. Aber kein Risiko, keine Redite. Hinterher dann logischerweise noch einmal mit dem NFS testen.
 
Also, timer auf LAPIC wechseln geht. Das Problem an sich bleibt aber leider weiterhin bestehen

Ja, natürlich gibt es eine eingebaute NIC (realtek). Und ja, natürlich fällt mir das erst jetzt wieder ein :huth:
Und siehe da über diese Karte funktioniert alles :-)
Also wird wohl einfach die schöne Intel NIC irgendwie kaputt sein. Glaube kaum dass ich in irgendeinen Treiber-Edgecase-bug hineinlaufe mit meiner Nutzung.
