KDE auf Notebook: Problem mit 1280x800 Auflösung

Hallo!
Ich habe folgendes Problem:
Habe FreeBSD 4.10 auf meinem Notebook (Sony VAIO) installiert. Der X-Server läuft einwandfrei, KDE ebenfalls.
Leider kriege ich aber nur eine Auflösung von 1024x768 hin, halt die Standard-Einstellung. Wenn ich die Auflösung in der XF86Config auf 1280x800 ändere, dann schmiert der ganze X-Server ab. Habe es mit verschiedenen Auflösungen versucht. Ich würde so gerne den ganzen Bildschirm benutzen. Habe eine Mobility Radeon 9200 und ein 15,4 Zoll Display. Habe auch nicht den ATI-Treiber genommen, damit lief es nicht, sondern den VESA-Treiber. Habe auch schon gegoogelt und es 3 Tage lang ausprobiert, aber ich komme nicht weiter. Hoffe mir kann hier jemand helfen!

schau nochmal nach, aber ich meine das der vesa treiber keine auflösung über 1024x768 kann. bin mir da aber nicht sicher.

Problem gelöst: XFree86 4.3 hat den ati Treiber nicht vertragen, der vesa Treiber unterstützt keine Auflösung über 1024x768. Habe jetzt Xfree86 4.4 installiert, jetzt läuft alles, so wie ich es haben wollte. Danke für die Hilfe @s-tlk!!!
