Wollt ihr Prism GT (und andere Devices) auf der OpenBSD Hardwareliste sehen?
Ihr wolt es also ... O.K.

Subject: prism GT support
---------------------------------------------------
If people want prism GT support, here is how you get it:
- Go to prism54.org
- Find out that there are people who know how to write a driver
- But there is no free firmware
- Read the trials and tribilations of the Linux people at getting
that freed up.
- Ask them who to talk to at Connexant. Get phone numbers, get email
addresses. Make calls, send mails. Get other people to do it too.
Convince those people, at Connexant, to release the firmware under a
BSD license.
Get that done, and I am confident a prism GT driver will appear
rapidly after that.
And the exact same process applies to the other chipsets.
This is not rocket science. We did this to get you Adaptec scsi
support. We did this to get you support for raid cards. Many
ethernet drivers were done this way, by applying pressure. It gets
done for nearly every free piece of hardware support you have.
Some of you (a few utter complete assholes, like Ed) assume I am doing
nothing about this problem. I am doing TONS about it. I am building
lists of names of people, phoning and mailing vendors all the time to
beat documentation out of them. I'm working very hard at this! Stop
beating me up. I'm just sick and sick and tired of it.
But we will *NOT* compromise our principles and start integrating
non-free components. If that is not acceptable to you, then please go
run something else which has support for these (rare) undocumented or
firmware locked devices. There are many other systems you can run
that contain various non-free components just to give you such
support. Like Windows, Solaris, Linux, FreeBSD, or NetBSD. Perhaps
those will appeal to you more.

Von nichts kommt nichts, Leute ... also ... an die Arbeit, wenn ihr was haben wollt.
