Mal angenommen, ich installiere auf mehrere Platten und wähle im Installer die Verschlüsselung und die Verschlüsselung für Swap aus.

Das rödelt ja alles sauber durch.

Was aber mache ich im Detail, wenn mir eine Platte dann abschmiert und ich diese ersetzen möchte, damit die Pools wieder healthy werden?

Ich hab mir das mit den Partitionen bereits angeschaut, das sind dann vier Stück pro Platte.

Ich denke, das meiste Kopfzerbrechen bereitet mir dann die Verschlüsselung mit geli.

In Tutorials habe ich gesehen, dass eine boot.key angelegt wird und Metadaten durch geli. Muss ich diese Daten backuppen und auf die neue Platte wieder schreiben oder wie geht das?
 
Hm ich hab das noch nie mit dem Installer gemacht, aber ich würde auf folgendes Tippen:
1. Partition layout auf die neue Platte aufspielen (boot loader / swap | zb. gpart backup / gpart restore (von der funktionierenden Platte) oder manuell)
2. boot loader auf die neue Partition aufspielen
3. zpool attach <poolname> <old drive> <new drive> # wobei old drive und new drive die jeweilige partition auf den platten sind
4. resilvern
5. zpool detach <poolname> <old drive>
 
Das mit dem Layout der Partitionen ist klar und auch wie ich mit ZFS umgehen muss.

Mir gehts speziell um die verschlüsselte Sache mit Geli. Ansonsten ist der Part auf der neuen Platte ja nicht mehr verschlüsselt. ;)
 
Wenn ich mich nicht irre, sollte das egal sein, die Verschlüsselung lebt ja im Pool und nicht um den Pool herum,
 
Die geli Schicht lebt unter ZFS. Verschlüsselung innerhalb ZFS ist Solaris vorbehalten (ein Dank an die Lizenzpolitik von Oracle).
 
Also, Oracles Dataset-Verschlüsselung ist bestenfalls fragwürdig. Sie verschlüsselt zwar die Datenblöcke und einige Metadaten, aber bei weitem nicht alles. Ein möglicher Angreifer kann daraus vergleichsweise viele Rückschlüsse auf die im Dataset liegenden Daten ziehen. Schon daher hatte Hemmungen Oracles Verschlüsselung in OpenZFS zu implementieren. Dann aber kam es zu dem Quellcode-Leak einer Solaris 11 Version, inklusive des damals aktuellen ZFS Version 30. Irgendein Schlaumeier meinte, dass es eine gute Idee wäre den Code zur Dataset-Verschlüsselung auf OpenZFS zu portieren. Die Patches wurden von Oracle aus dem Netz geklagt. Seitdem hatte keiner mehr den Mut Verschlüsselung auf ZFS auch nur schief anzuschauen. Selbst wenn man eine komplett eigene, unabhängige Implementierung schreibt, besteht halt ein Risiko es mit Oracles Rechtsabteilung ausdiskutieren zu müssen.
OpenZFS führt zwar noch ein Verschlüsselungsprojekt auf der Wunschliste, darauf das es realisiert wird würde ich aber nicht mehr hoffen.

Erste Partition: Da ist der Bootloader drauf
2te Partition: Da ist FreeBSD installiert und die Partition ist Teil vom Bootpool
3te Partition: Einfach nur Swap
4te Partiton: Der auf der Platte zur Verfügung stehende Restplatz. Diese Partition wurde mit geli verschlüsselt, welches mir ada0p4.eli zur Verfügung stellt und dann aus ada0p4.eli, ada1p4.eli usw. den Pool namens zroot zur Verfügung stellt.

Nehmen wir nun an, dass mir ada3 abschmiert, beide Pools sind degraded.
Ich fahre das System runter, wechsle die Platte gegen die gleiche aus.

gpart destroy -F ada3 //damit gehe ich sicher, dass alle Metadaten und Partitionen von der neuen Platte runtergeputzt werden, bei nagelneuen Platten nicht notwendig

gpart create -s gpt ada3 //das erstellt mir das GPT Schema auf der Platte

gpart add -t freebsd-boot -s 512K -a 4k -l gptboot3 ada3 // das erstellt mir die 512kb-große Bootloaderpartition, mit 4k alignment und dem autistisch korrekten label gptboot3

gpart add -t freebsd-zfs -s 2G -a 4k -l boot3 ada3 // das erstellt mir die 2gb-große ZFS-Bootpartition, mit 4k alignment und dem autistisch korrekten label boot3, wovon der Bootloader dann eigentlich booten können soll

gpart add -t freebsd-swap -s 2G -a 4k -l swap3 ada3 // das erstellt die Swap-Partition mit 2gb Größe, ebenfalls 4k und korrektes Label

Wie aber gehts nun weiter? Ist das bisher überhaupt richtig?
Nach meinem Verständnis muss nun ada3p2 die alte (offline gegangene) Partition vom Pool 'bootpool' ersetzen.

ada3p4 muss nun aber mit geli verschlüsselt werden. Wie erreiche ich das, vor allem in Hinblick auf mein bisher vergebenes Passwort?

Weiterhin habe ich bei der Installation angegeben, dass auch swap verschlüsselt sein soll. Wieso hat swap dann keine *.eli devices?

Eine weitere Frage, die sich mir stellt:

Dass dein swap verschlüselt macht da System selbst wenn du es in der fstab entsprechend vorsiehst. Da musst du selbst nix mehr machen.

An sonsten gehst du vor wie normal auch. Du beschreibst es ja. Nur, dass du nach dem Anlagen der Partitionen noch die geli Schicht dazwischen legst.
Also sowas in der Art:
geli init -s 4096 -l 256 /dev/ada0p4

dann noch ein
geli attach /dev/ada0p4

Dann sollte dein ada0p4.eli erzeugt werden und du kannst darauf anfangen dein ZFS auszubreiten.


P.S.: Aber gerde bei so Setups ist es eine wünschenswerte Sache wenn man die Festplatetn Labelt (und nicht vergessen die Platten dann auch beschriften ;) ).
 
Mja, dann hoffe ich mal, dass das auch alles so funktioniert, wenn eine Platte abraucht. :)

Ich werde etwas zappelig, wenn ich nicht genau weiß, was im Fehlerfall genau tun ist. ;)
 
Statt der einzelnen gpart-Aufrufe kannst du auch mittels gpart eine komplette Partitionstabelle von einer Platte auf eine andere kopieren:

# gpart backup ada0 | gpart restore -F ada1

Ein vorschlag meinerseits, bastel dir das ganze doch mal mit Dateien zusammen schreibe irgendetwas drauf benenne eine Datei um und binde eine neue Datei in den Pool ein, dann hast du das getestet und weißt was zu tun ist. Ich habe das Damals gemacht bevor ich den mirror in meinem Server angelegt habe.
Wie spiegelst du dein swap? So wie ich das sehe fliegt dir das System auseinander sobald Daten im Swap sind und die Platte von der swap gemounted ist defekt ist.
Ich habe Swap via gmirror gespiegelt und eingebunden durch einen Test weiß ich das ich jetzt alle Platten des Mirrors wahlweise abstöpseln kann und meine Kiste noch läuft als wäre nichts gewesen, solange noch mindestens eine platte lebt. Evtl. hilft dir das ja etwas :)
 
Ich hab den Test jetzt mal gemacht und ada0 einfach abgeklemmt und gleich ne neue leere Platte reingekloppt.

Beim Boot das PW eingegeben, dann bootet er und bleibt erneut bei der Passabfrage stehen. Nungut...evtl. hab ich mich vertippt. Also nochmal PW eingegeben, er nimmts nicht.

Es wird immer nach dem PW für ada0p4 gefragt, habe dann noch von einer anderen Platte gebootet, gleicher Fehler.

Habe keine Sonderzeichen, Umlaute, nichtmal ein y oder z im PW.
 
Der letzte Post von mir hat sich erledigt, das resilvering läuft gerade :)

Der Name ada0p2 stört mich nun etwas in der Kosmetik. Kann ich das noch ändern?
ada0p2 hat allerdings das Label boot0....
 
Neue Installation, neues Problem...

RootonZFS auf zwei Platten, gespiegelt.
Eine der Platten ist abgeraucht, Platte wurde ersetzt, neu partitioniert, resilvering ist durch.

Beim Boottest nur von der neuen Platte (und nur diese ist angestöpselt) bekomme ich folgende Fehlermeldung:

Nun bin ich etwas ratlos. Für mich erkennbar ist, dass die neue Platte nicht beim Booten entschlüsselt wird. Aber was fehlt?

nach der ausgabe von zpool status ist eine deiner Platten nicht mehr da.
Versuch mal sie online zu setzen

wenn das nicht geht schau mal ob die Platte überhaupt in /dev zu finden ist.
Wenn sie da ist und du sie nicht im pool online bekommst müsstest du mal schauen was dein setup für Schmerzen hat.

Bei mir weiß ich das ein controller auf dem mainboard meines desktops ne Macke hat und deswegen ab und an eine Platte weg ist, nach dem nächsten einschalten ist die aber meist wieder da.
 
Das hab ich schon gemacht, nach dem reboot ist sie wieder weg.

Also mit geli attach (woran ich erkenne, dass sie beim Boot nicht entschlüsselt wird), dann replace, resilvering läuft, pool ist healthy und nach dem boot wieder nicht mehr.
 
Kannst du in /var/log/messages oder in dmesg was erkennen das auf einen Fehler hinweist?

Ich kenne mich mit eli nicht aus, aber liegt der pool im container(nach dem was in deiner ausgabe zu sehen war ...ja)? Dann würde ich den Fehler in deiner eli configuration suchen.

Ja, zroot ist ada5p4.eli und ada6p4.eli als mirror.
Wie gesagt, beim googlen kam ich auf zpool.cache, der neu erstellt werden muss. Der Post war aber von 2012 und blind wollte ich jetzt auch nichts ausprobieren.

Mir fiel nichts neues dabei auf.
"bad exports list line /tank/archiv" und "WARNING: /usr/local/etc/smartd.conf is not readable" sind andere Baustellen.

interessant. Der kommt kurz nach dem ada5p4.eli created und die vdev_guid ist auch die von der platte. Die Platte scheint ja io zu sein, eli scheint zu funktionieren.
Das einzige was ich komisch finde, ist das zwischen dem entschlüsseln der beiden Spiegel hälften SWAP entschlüsselt wird. Ich könnte mir vorstellen, das ZFS das nicht lustig findet. Anscheinend kannst du ja die Reihnfolge ändern in der rc.conf mit geli_devices="$devices" da würde ich mal schauen wie du die da eingetragen hast.

Ich meine, dass das war, als ich den replace absetzte.

Was swap betrifft...das war immer so, das hat der Installer so eingerichtet.

geli_devices= <- da stehen nur ada1-4 drin, sind reine Datenplatten.

Ich denke, dass das Keyfile etwas damit zu tun hat. Der Installer hat ja /boot/encryption.key angelegt.
