wierd der Intel GMA 4500MHD Grafikchip unterstützt

Hallo wollte mir folgendes Notebook kaufen
Lenovo ThinkPad SL510, dieses besitzt den GMA 4500MHD Grafikchip,
würde gerne wissen ob dieser auf freebsd ohne Probleme läuft.
Habe zum Grafikchip zwar einen tread hier gefunden der ist mir allerdings etwas undeutlich.
 
Auf 3D-Spiele. Quake II (ja, das von 1997) läuft mit ca. 30 Frames pro Sekunde... Mein Voodoo 2 SLI-System schaffte vor 12 Jahren mehr. :)

Ob der Spaß nun für KDE und co. reicht, weiß ich nicht. Openbox läuft im 2D-Modus zumindest einwandfrei. Wenn man nicht spielen will, ist das Ding schon okay...
 
Hmm .. und das soll vesa sein? Ich hab da etwas den Bezug verloren, gibts denn einen Intel-Grafikkartentreiber unter FreeBSD? Ich meine, der wird meines Erachtens ja mit Xorg ausgeliefert, ich wüsste jetzt gar nicht, warum der unter BSD nicht laufen sollte.
 
Nein, mein Treiber ist "xf86-video-intel-2.7.1_3". FreeBSD unterstützt im Moment alle Intel-Grafikchips bis einschließlich der X4500-Serie, zu der auch dieses Ding gehört. Nicht unterstützt wird nur "Ironlake", das Ding findet man in Kombination mit den "Core i"-Prozessoren.

LOL? Also da schafft eine Radeon M X700 (auch schon etwas betagt) mit dem freien Radeon-Treiber bestimmt mehr. Diese Intel-Chips scheinen ja wohl echt nicht der Bringer zu sein, oder?

Das auch, hier ist es aber eher der Treiber. Eigentlich(tm) sollte das Ding Q3A schaffen, was man im Moment vergessen kann.
 
Also das ist in der Tat sehr schlecht. Q3A läuft auf der benannten Radeon wunderbar.
Sogar UT2004 läßt sich damit spielen.
Da kann man an dieser Stelle den Leuten wirklich nur zu einer Radeon raten, bzw. von einer Intel abraten...
 
Ich habe im Notebook zusätzlich noch 'ne MobilityRadeOn HD3650 verbaut, aber die Inteltreiber sind oft schmerzfreier. Von der Performance her ist die ATI deutlich besser angesiedelt, aber dafür hört man den Lüfter. :)
 
So habe das Thinpad jetzt.
freebsd installiert, und danach KDE4, iebt es KDE3 nichtmehr? konnte es nicht herunter laden.
habe den xserver configuriert beim testen bekommt man das schöne Rasterbild (gehe davon aus das die Grafikkarte erkannt wurde).
Wenn ich jetzt allerdings kde4 starten möchte bricht er beim starten ab.

Also ich habe jetzt keine Benchmarks gemacht, aber ein alter Acer-Schleppi mit Core2Duo (1.6GHz) und GMA950 schafft Quake3 locker und das auch bis dato mittels FreeBSD. Für obigen Chipsatz scheinen wohl eher die Anpassungen neuerer Versionen zu fehlen.
 
Der 4500er Grafikchip ist der erste Intel-Chip, der zwingend GEM braucht. Robert Noland hatte den den aktuell genutzten Treiber aus mehreren Versionen zusammengefummelt. Das ist natürlich nicht optimal und dürfte die Ursache für die Geschwindigkeitsprobleme sein. Inzwischen ist da jedoch Licht am Ende des Tunnels zu sehen, denn Intel hat eine deutlich neuere Version des Treibers veröffentlicht, die alle bisher erschienen Intel-GPUs auch ohne GEM unterstützt. ich muss die Datei auf einen Usbstick ziehen, Problem der usb stick wird nicht gemounted ist als fat 32 formatiert.
folgende Fehlermeldung tritt auf.

So habs dan doch endlich geschaft mit dem usb-stick hier die log.

Der 4500er Grafikchip ist der erste Intel-Chip, der zwingend GEM braucht. Robert Noland hatte den den aktuell genutzten Treiber aus mehreren Versionen zusammengefummelt. Das ist natürlich nicht optimal und dürfte die Ursache für die Geschwindigkeitsprobleme sein. Inzwischen ist da jedoch Licht am Ende des Tunnels zu sehen, denn Intel hat eine deutlich neuere Version des Treibers veröffentlicht, die alle bisher erschienen Intel-GPUs auch ohne GEM unterstützt. Das sind ja super Nachrichten.
Kann mich noch erinnern, wie damals die Intel GMA in meiner EeeBox b202 anfänglich nur ohne Hardwarebeschleunigung lief und wie Robert Noland dann den Intel Treiber und alles weitere nötige bearbeitete (ein dreifaches Hoch auf Robert Noland!), was dann die Hardwarebeschleunigung auf die kleine EeeBOX b202 brachte. Meine Klappcomputer haben auch alle Intel GMA, da freue ich mich drauf, wenn da weitere Beschleunigung für die Intel GMA dabei herauskommen sollte.
