X11 irgendwie zerschossen...

Hallo,

ich habe OpenBSD 3.8 installiert, und X11 lief anfangs recht gut, aber ich wollte die Bildschirmparameter etwas anpassen und hab an den xorg.conf Dateien
(in /etc/X11 ond /usr/blah.../X11R6/...) rumgefummelt, was aber vorerst keine Effekte zeigte, bis auf einmal X gar nicht mehr startete.
Dann hab ich nochmal mit

usw. wie es beschrieben wurde
mir neue xorg.conf Dateien ins /root Verzeichnis gelegt, bekam aber nur nach

Eine ganz dumme Frage: Was startet man mit startx?
XFree86, Xorg, X, ....?
Weil ich teilweise das gefühl habe, das die erzeugten xorg.conf-Dateien
wenn sie mit Xorg -configure erstellt werden nicht mit XFree86 können,
denn, wenn ich diese neu erstellte conf Datei direkt mit
Code: 
Xorg -xorg.conf
lade, kommt zumindest ein grauer Bildschirm mit Mauszeiger.

Ein bisschen konfuse Fehlerbeschreibung, aber vielleicht kennt jemand das Problem oder sich etwas mehr mit X aus.

Warum hast du Xorg und XFree86 auf einem PC, oder habe ich dich hier falsch verstanden?

Benutze doch zum Einrichten deiner xorg.conf oder XF86Config einfach das/die Programm(e) xorgconfig -> Xorg oder
xf86config -> XFree86!

Kennst du denn deine Hardware? Grafikkarte, Chip, Monitor usw.?
Welche Bildschirmparameter wolltest du anpassen?
Die Auflösung, Farbtiefe z.B. werden in der xorg.conf bzw. XF86Config eingestellt!

unten steht das x-server keine screens gedunden hat...
beste postet mal deine xorg oder xfree.conf

Klar, meine Harware kenne ich, habe auch alles soweit eingetragen
und wie gesagt, einen grauen Bildschirm "mit allem komfort", bekomme ich,
aber ich schätze das Chaos aus Xorg, X, XFree86 ist nicht gesund.

Muss ich vielleicht etwas in der .xinitrc verändern, in der nämlich auf
.Xmodmap, .Xressource und so verwiesen wird, die in meinem root-Verzeichnis liegen sollen, da aber nicht sind?

Oder gibt es eine möglichkeit das ganze X-ZEugs runterzuschmeißen und neu zu installieren?

Ja gibt es. Wenn du das alles runtergeputzt hast, dann installier dir am besten X.org 6.9 oder auch 7.0. Ist IMO besser als XFree86...

Aeh... wir reden hier von OpenBSD, da gibt's X11 als Addon zur Basisinstallation dazu (also keine Ports und Packages).

Fuer OpenBSD 3.8 ist X.org 6.8.2 (plus patches) angesagt, fuer 3.9X.org 6.9.0.

Das alte XF86-Geraffel ist eigentlich nur noch fuer Grafikhardware vorhanden, die X.org (und auch die letzten XF86-Versionen) nicht mehr (oder noch nicht wieder) supporten.

Zum Ursprungsproblem: theoretisch sollte X erstmal ohne /etc/X11/xorg.conf rennen, zumindest auf einigermassen neuer Hardware. Ein beherztes rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf sollte also helfen, erstmal wieder X anwerfen zu koennen.

muß so aussehen, die Modes "800x600" kann man vom monitor anpassen, eben "1024x768" etc..beste fängst klein an und rest aus Section "Screen" löschen und nach /etc/???? ..... mußt du mal ins handbuch von openbsd gucken wie das verzeichnis genau heißt

Hab ich gemacht; alle xorg.conf's und XFree86Config's gelöscht, aber immer
noch die gleiche Ausgabe, wie oben im xdm.log zitiert.

Kann ich denn theoretisch mit den xetc38.tgz, xbase38.tgz,...
unter den installations-paketen mir X neu aufspielen?

Oder nochmal zu startx und xinit allgemein, wie beeinflusse ich, welches
"X-Programm" also Xorg oder XFree86 gestartet wird, da unabhängig
von geänderten oder gelöschten xorg.conf- und .xinitrc-Dateien immer dieses

Das war/ist mir klar. Ich hab OpenBSD auch mal ausprobiert (die 3.7er; 3.9 will ich mir nochmal anschauen).

@limonene: Dir fehlt die Aufloesung in deiner Screen-Section.

Hat leider auch nicht geholfen.
Grundsätzlich scheint X die XF86Config-Datei zu nehmen, und meine xorg.conf zu ignorieren. Wenn ich dann die xorg.conf als XF86Config an passender Stelle speicher, kommt bei startx

X.org und XFree86 sind zwei unterschiedliche Softwarepakete. Die Konfigurationsdateien moegen bis zu einem gewissen Grad kompatibel sein, garantieren will ich aber nix ;)

Am einfachsten damit, das du entweder XFree86 oder X.org deinstallierst wenn du beide drauf hast. Das gibt sonst nur Kuddelmuddel :)
Normalerweise sollte der jeweilige X-Server auch seine Konfigurationsdatei akzeptieren. Die meisten Fehler die dann noch kommen sind irgendwelche Konfigurationsfehler... :)

Ich hab grad mal die man-page von startx(1) angeschaut und auf die schnelle nichts gefunden womit man den einen oder anderen X-Server starten kann.

ich würde den xserver deinstallieren, base updaten und xserver neu drauf. dazwischen noch alle .confs löschen...
und dann ein config aus den beispieln nehmen (sowas gibts zumindest unter freebsd) und damit versuchen.

/usr/X11R6 und /etc/X11 gelöscht, X11R6.9 von x.org runtergeladen, neu gebaut und installiert, und siehe da es funktioniert. Alerdings beschweren sich z.B. xv und emacs
und eigentlich alle Programme, ob nun mit graphischer Ausgabe oder nicht, dass irgendwelche libX11.so.9.0, libXt.so.9.0 nicht da sind.
Wahrscheinlich sind diese beim radikalen löschen mit hops gegangen.
Weiß jemand, wie man diese fehlenden Dateien wiederkriegt?
Muss ich alle Programme mit pkg_delete runter und mit pkg_add wieder drauf machen?

von hand? das ist bestimmt nicht gut. der hat bestimmt openbsd spezifische patches ohne die andere sachen sich beschwehren oder garnicht gehen....

edit: falls ich es falsch verstanden habe; wenn du vorher xorg6.8 drauf hattest, dann solltest du vielleicht deine ports updaten aber dazu brauchst du nicht pkg_delete pkg_add machen. inzwischen kannst du auch updaten mit pkg_add -u .

Sorry, aber wenn Du das nicht selbst weisst, dann ist es generell eine verdammt bloede Idee, das Zeugs direkt von x.org zu bauen. Eigentlich ist es auch eine bloede Idee, wenn man es weiss. Die Sourcen von X (mit allen OpenBSD-spezifischen Patches) liegen unter /usr/XF4. Wie man das baut, steht u.a. in release(8).

pkg_* kannst Du nach dieser Aktion getrost vergessen, mal davon abgesehen, dass eine Package durch pkg_delete und pkg_add immer noch die gleichen Shared Libraries braucht.

Am besten, Du machst das System komplett platt und installierst noch mal neu.

Und bitte mal die FAQ lesen.

Das Verzeichnis hab ich nicht.
Brauch ich wohl auch nicht, denn jetzt läuft alles....
Muss am reboot gelegen haben, war ich wohl etwas voreilig.
