X11 spinnt, xdm und startx gehen nicht mehr...

Ich hatte das System schon seit ewigkeiten upgedatet, es ist also keine Neuinstallation.
Seit einiger Zeit (keine Ahnung seit wann) kann man sich mit xdm anmelden, aber wenn man sich abmeldet und wieder in den xdm kommen sollte, dann ist eine Weile (2 oder 3 Minuten) nichts... dann Neustart des Rechners.
Nach dem ich jetzt Gnome2 installiert hatte und ich gdm testen wollte, kann man sich weder mit xdm, startx oder gdm an X11 erfreuen.
Es erscheint bei "startx" nichts, und bei "*dm" erscheint auf der Console die Meldung
getty repeating too quickly on port /dev/ttyv8, sleeping 30 secs :zitter:

Es ist FreeBSD 5.2.1p9 mit neuesten Paketen aus den Ports (portupgrade -RNODa ) installiert.
make.conf ist (zur Fehlervermeidung) gelöscht worden.

Kann mir jemand sagen wo der Fehler liegt? Ich bin für jede Hilfe sehr dankbar. :confused:

Wie startest Du gdm oder xdm? Ich nehme mal an über /etc/ttys?
Schreibe Dir doch mal ein Start-Skript, das Du in /usr/local/etc/rc.d ablegst. Bei mir war genau das die Lösung auf das von Dir geschilderte Problem. Seitdem habe ich Ruhe und alles rennt perfekt.
Ein Beispiel für ein solches Start-Skript findest Du in den Einsteiger-Infos.

Nein, nicht mit der "/etc/ttys", in der Anleitung zu Gnome steht, das der gdm NICHT per ttys gestartet werden darf. Er hat ein Start-/Stop-Script unter "/usr/X11R6/etc/rc.d/gdm.sh.sample",
das muss in "/usr/X11R6/etc/rc.d/gdm.sh" umbenannt werden und dann ist schon alles klar.
Auf meinem Notebook funktioniert das ja auch so! Da habe ich keine Probleme.

Das Script lässt sich auch per Hand in gewohnter weise starten und stopen...


Aber trotzdem Danke für Deinen Tip. :)

Erstens ist das nur die Haelfte und die XF86Config kannst du auch gleich noch mitschicken, die scheint naemlich nicht ganz ok zu sein.
 
Das kann sein, set ich in der konfig etwas geändert hatte ging garnichts mehr. Aber der Reset nach dem abmelden war vorher schon über ein Jahr bei allen updates...

Die Änderungen die ich vorgenommen hatte waren die,
ich hatte die folgenden Zeilen in der Sektion "Monitor" auskommentiert:

#HorizSync 31.5-75
#VertRefresh 80-85

und die jetzt folgenden Zeilen in die Sektion "Screen" eingefühgt:

Modes "1024x768"

Da die Maschine aber in Benutzung war hatte ich sie erst Tage später (wegen eines Updates) neu starten müssen und da gin nix mehr.

Aber was ist mit dem komischen Abmelde-Reset?

Kann das vielleicht sein, dass ich mich bei Kiste nicht abmelden konnte, wurde durch einen (Ur-)alten xdm ausgelöst, da ich in meiner /etc/make.conf "NO_X= true" drinn hatte. Oder wird der xdm mit "XFree86" aus den Ports installiert/update ???

habe die Antwort auf diese (dumme) Frage selbst gefunden:

bash-2.05b# pkg_info -W /usr/X11R6/bin/xdm
/usr/X11R6/bin/xdm was installed by package XFree86-clients-4.4.0_1
 
So, gerade ist das aktuelle Gnome2-Update fertig (ich nehme jetzt den gdm statt xdm), und jetzt geht auch das an- und abmelden. Bis auf eine Kleinigkeit,
wenn gdm startet wird der Bildschirm schwarz, bis ich [Strg]+[Alt]+[F1-8] (nur eine F-Taste) eingebe, erst dann startet er richtig und funktioniert dann auch einwandfrei. Diese Tastenkombination muss auch eingegeben werden, wenn man sich abmeldet und der gdm wieder (von alleine) starten müsste!
Aber diese Tastenkombination MUSS gedrückt werden, sonst gibt es wieder diesen (oben beschriebenen Reset)... was bedeutet das denn bloss... :confused:
