Ahoi

habe ein kleines, aber extrem nervendes Problem:

Habe meine Desktop-Maschine wieder mit einem aktuellen FreeBSD 8 versorgt, Stand vor ca. 2 Wochen, installiert mit Snapshot-Image 201002 (amd64).

Danach habe ich erst einmal (wie gewohnt) das Basis-System per c(v)sup mit 8.0-STABLE upgedated und mit folgender Kernel-Config neu gebaut:

Bei einem Reboot hängt die Maschine bei

Stopping other CPUs <hier tot>

Danach passiert nichts mehr, CPU Lüfter schaltet ne Stufe hoch, als wär dicke Last drauf. Nur ein Reset oder Ausschalten hilft.

Ich bin etwas ratlos, habe einiges über Reboot Deadlocks gelesen, die dem Problem sehr nahekommen, aber die Geschichten betrafen zu 99% FreeBSD7 Beta mit SCHED_ULE oder uralte Probleme mit FreeBSD 4/5.

Bin nich der Kernel-Debug-Meister - wäre für alle Tips dankbar, wo ich zu suchen anfangen kann...

Mit Eintrag in

kann ich ganz normal rebooten. Baue ich die Maschine mit KERNCONF=GENERIC direkt aus den Sourcen, tritt das selbe Problem auf.

Habe nun eine andere Maschine mit gleichem Symptom:

- frisch installiert mit 8.0-Release-CD (amd64)
- csup auf 8.0-Stable
- make buildworld && make buildkernel KERNCONF=GENERIC (nix gefummelt) && make installkernel KERNCONF=GENERIC, ab in den singleuser, dann make installworld
- "shutdown -r now" *zwinker* mit altem Kernel funzt noch
- "shutdown -r now" nach Boot mit neuem Kernel -> Hänger bei "Stopping other CPUs"

Habe (extra) keine angepasste make.conf, reine GENERIC-config aus den Sourcen, damit auch kein atapicam wie vorgeschlagen.

Nun werde ich langsam stutzig, dies ist eine komplett andere Maschine, Hardware bis auf Prozessor grundverschieden. Einzige Gemeinsamkeit: gleicher Prozessor = Intel Q6600. Irgendwas muss sich da getan haben...

Ich schliesse nicht aus, dass ich was falsch mache, aber ich hab so schon mehrere Dutzend Rechner installiert/upgedatet, nur mit den Sourcen seit April habe ich scheinbar ein echtes Problem....

ich kann das Problem bestätigen, weiß aber auch noch nicht, woran es liegt. Es tritt auch nicht immer bei mir auf.

Melde teilweisen Erfolg:

Nach cvsup 2010.06.22 auf ports und stable (make buildworld, installkernel usw.) UND portupgrade -a (mit der Update Hölle php5, libassuan, phonon usw.., check UPDATING) , funktioniert der reboot aus Gnome heraus wieder.

Ein "shutdown -r now" oder "reboot" bringt noch den Hänger wie erwähnt.

Macht mich etwas stutzig, was macht das reboot-Kommando per Gnome anders, damit es funktioniert ?!?

Problem ist gelöst - nach Update auf Source per RELENG_8 (27.6.2010, 8.1-PRERELEASE) und komplettem Neubauen mit buildworld+buildkernel(+mergemaster danach) gibt's das o.g. Problem nicht mehr.
