Xorg 7.3: xorg.conf-Auflösung wird ignoriert

Grenzenlose Naivität trieb mich vor ein paar Tagen dazu,
die Ports meines FreeBSD 6.2 zu aktualisieren. So ging´s
auch von Xorg 7.2 auf 7.3. Also bis dahin ging
noch was. Lief auch alles viel zu problemlos, ich hätte
mißtrauisch werden sollen.

Danach wurde der Mauszeiger nicht angezeigt und
die xorg.conf-Auflösung ignoriert.
Egal welcher Windowmanager, Fluxbox oder Xfce.

Ich hab mich vorher nur oberflächlich kundig gemacht,
aber irgendwie hatten nur ATI- und NVIDIA-User Probleme
mit Xorg 7.3. Wer kümmert sich schon um die, ich hab´
nicht umsonst eine Matrox G550 AGP, die läuft immer
und notfalls auch mal übers Wasser.

Weil ich also sowieso keine Ahnung habe und ich geradeso
Portinstall anschubsen kann, hab ich den xf86- und xorg-Kram
einfach runter gehauen und nochmal wieder rauf.

Es ging danach auch wieder. Der Verdacht gegen
den MGA-Treiber erwies sich als unbegründet, weil
der schon vor Wochen aktualisiert wurde. Und da gab´s
keine Probleme. Xorg.conf wurde auch nicht verändert.

Heute wurde dann die geistige Umnachtung akut und
ich hab` einkomplettes Portupdate angeleiert weil ich
irgendeinen Scheiß updaten wollte.

Jetzt sitz ich wieder vor einem Screen ohne Mauszeiger (Maus geht aber)
und mit einer Auflösung, die selbst Blinde erschreckt.

Kurzum: Wie krieg ich das behoben? Anbei: Logwüste, für die ich mich
schonmal entschuldige..

Merkwürdich, die Maus wir bei dir ordentlich initialisiert. Bei mir im log sieht es nicht anders aus. Siehe hier.

Hast du kein dri installiert?
Was sagt dir pkg_info | grep dri?
Wenn kein dri installiert ist, dann mach einfach mal ein portinstall dri!
Dann nimm dir mal deine xorg.conf vor und ändere mal

Mir fiehl auf, dass du eine PS2 Mouse verwendest. Dann ändere in deiner xorg.conf die Ziele

Schau mal in der Manpage deines Grafiktreibers, normalerweise kann man den Hardwarecursor abschalten. Ein Softwarecursor sollte auf jeden Fall gehen.
 
Der Mauscursor hat´s euch angetan, oder? Dabei halte ich den für das letzte meiner Probleme.

Ich war wohl in der Problemschilderung unpräzise: Sobald ich beispielsweise Fluxbox
starte stimmt zwar die Farbtiefe aber die Auflösung ist im Keller und er stellt nur einen
Teil von Fluxbox dar, der rechte Rand wird um etliche Pixel unterschlagen. Bei Xfce wird
unten und seitlich in der Darstellung gespart. Ich kriege also nichtmal den kompletten Screen zu sehen. Das hätte ich wohl früher erwähnen sollen...

Also die Maus rühr ich erstmal nicht an, die ist hier noch am besten im Rennen.

Nachtrag:
Mein Xorg.0.log erzählt ja:

...

Gibt´s eigtl. eine Möglichkeit ohne großes DualHead-Xinerama-Voodoo der Göre zu erklären,
doch bitte den DVI-Ausgang zu ignorieren und stinknormal den VGA-Ausgang zu verwenden, weil
sich das mal einfach so gehört, wenn da der einzig vorhandene Monitor dranhängt? So wie das
in prä-Xorg7.3er so schön daukompatibel für mich geklappt hat. Ich hab den DVI-Ausgang
jedenfalls nicht bestellt.

Das Problem mit der Auflösung hab ich auch und bisher nur eine provisorische lösung gefunden: xrandr(1) installieren und nach jedem start von x11 xrandr --size 1024x768 (oder welche auflösung auch immer man haben will) eingeben.
 
Normalerweise sollte xrandr schon da sein. Wenn du es nachinstallieren musst, ist dein xorg nicht komplett. Besteht die Möglichkeit, dass X eine Auflösung erkennt, die vom Monitor nicht unterstützt wird?

Wenn ja trag in deine Monitor Section einfach PreferredMode und eventuell auch TargetRefresh ein.
 
Auf Xrandr und PreferrdMode und das ganze Gedöns bin ich dann auch gekommen.
Immerhin werden die Pixel jetzt ordnungsgemäß in 1024x768 sortiert. Das ist zwar
noch ein bisschen von den seligen 1280x1024 entfernt aber wenn die Taube auf dem
Dach hockt, dreht man halt dem Spatz den Hals um.

Mal so am Rande: Wo fange ich an, Schrauben zu drehen, wenn ich den Ovelaymode von XawTV
wieder zum laufen kriegen will?
 
Schöne Frage. Weil xrandr -q nix genehmes anzeigt, habe ich das manuell nachgetragen, inkl. modeline und all den arkanen Kram. Wenn ich dann xrandr mit der 1280er Auflösung abfeuere, seh´ ich schwarz. Bei einigen esoterischen Konfigurationen fällt wohl der mga-treiber negativ auf aber einfach nur den verfickten VGA-Ausgang mit genehmer Auflösung ansteuern sollte wohl gehen. Am WE teste ich mal mit nem anderen Monitor. Aber ich kenn das schon, am Ende hab´ ich irgendwas verbockt, sogesehen ist der funktionierende Rechner an sich schon eine wahre Pracht, mit SXGA oder ohne. Sowieso: besten Dank für die Hilfe.
 
Ist das ein Röhrenmonitor? Wenn ja, dann verzerrt dir 1280x1024 sowieso die Geometrie. Dann solltest du stattdessen 1280x960 probieren.

einst öffnet und uns alle zuscheißen wird. Achja, und nochmals Danke Kamikaze.

Er tut´s mit 1280x960 auf dem VGA-Ausgang. Ich musste nur die stinkende Auflösung
runterdrehen. Jetzt stürzt er nur noch ab, wenn ich zu dolle an Xfce rumspiele, was
ich einfachmal der pädagogischen Ader meines Rechners zuschreibe. Dagegen hilft
Fluxbox.

Anbei die Xorg-Konfiguration die letztlich funktionierte.
