So, die Platten, die den zroot-mirror bilden habe ich erneut gegen andere Platten getauscht. 2x Seagate Barracuda ES...die sind definitv ok und liefen problemlos in einem anderen System von mir.

Die geli-swaps habe ich gekickt, ist nun unverschlüsselt.

Zumindest könnte man - falls die Maschine mit nem anderen OS schon mal längere Zeit stabil läuft - auf ein Problem mit dem OS-Layer schließen; falls er da auch absemmelt, würds eher auf ein HW-Problem hinweisen, welches von Zeit zu Zeit auftritt, z.B. ne Spannung bricht kurz ein usw;

Alles in allem schwierig, sowas genau festzustellen - hatte auf Arbeit dunnemals mal ne SUN w2100z (kennt die noch jemand?), mit Linux und genau so einem Problem, bei der wurde vom Service über nen Zeitraum so ziemlich alles bis aufs Blechgehäuse getauscht, die Maschine rebootete sich unvorhersehbar immer wieder mal neu; wurde schlussendlich abgeschrieben; alle anderen liefen aber einwandfrei...

Welches OS auf der Möhre vorher lief, weiß ich nicht, Platten waren gewiped. Ich tippe mal auf Windows Server. Das Ding war definitiv in nem gekühlten, staubfilternden Schrank drin, das hat man anhand der Ablagerungen gesehen. Die alten Platten waren 45000 Stunden gelaufen und anhand der anderen SMART-Werte sah man, dass der Server durchweg lief, hohe uptime, wenig reboots.
TYAN sagt im Handbuch, dass FreeBSD unterstützt wird. :p

hatte auf Arbeit dunnemals mal ne SUN w2100z (kennt die noch jemand?), mit Linux und genau so einem Problem, bei der wurde vom Service über nen Zeitraum so ziemlich alles bis aufs Blechgehäuse getauscht, die Maschine rebootete sich unvorhersehbar immer wieder mal neu; wurde schlussendlich abgeschrieben; alle anderen liefen aber einwandfrei...
Unglaublich....jedenfalls macht mich die Situation gerade richtig hart dumm. :grumble: Zumal ich jetzt alle Komponenten dreifach hier habe.....bis auf die backplanes.
Ich warte jetzt auf dem nächsten crash, dumpdev läuft.
Dann stopf ich ein anderes Board (anderer Hersteller) und anderer CPU rein.
Wenn das ebenfalls bröselt....besorg ich neue backplanes.

Und wenn das auch nicht stiefelt....dann brauch ich ne Kaufberatung.:)

Du könntest höchstens mal ubcd und ein Stresstool davon - oder mehrere kombiniert - über nen längeren Zeitraum laufen lassen, wenns da stabil läuft, könnte man es wenigstens aufs FreeBSD schieben, allerdings halt auch ohne dass man erstmal auf den Grund dort schliessen kann; zumindest wär dann mal die HW einigermassen ausgeschlossen - wobei es natürlich auch dann mal mit ubcd selber neu booten _könnte_ ... wie gesagt, schwierig, sowas einzugrenzen, da man nie 100% sicher sein kann, dass es mit dem anderen OS/Kernel nicht doch auch mal neu bootet, nur halt nicht im (kurzen) Beobachtungszeiraum - man kanns ja schliesslich ned ein halbes Jahr auf Probe laufen lassen, irgendwann willste den Server ja auch für was verwenden.

Wow, 45.000h auf den Platten - Idee: kannst du BSD mal von Stick oder so auf der HW laufen lassen, d.h _ohne_ Platten? Ggf hat ne Platte nen (beginnenden) 'Schlag' und zieht kurz mal die 5 oder 12V Schiene auf 0, um gleich hernach wieder ordnungsgemäß zu funktionieren - aber der Rechner is da schon am neu Booten?
Da eigentlich nix brauchbares über den Event ins Log geschrieben wird, könnte es sich um so nen kurzen 'Flacker-Aus-An'-Event in der Hardware handeln... aber sowas is wie gesagt schwierig einzugrenzen.

Der ist aktuell mein Router...für mich und meinen Nachbarn. Akut schlechte Idee ;) Werde mal sehen, dass ich das ne Nacht durchlaufen lassen kann.

Die Platten hatte ich anfangs genutzt, wegen der Fehlersuche allerdings gegen nagelneue ersetzt. Also Fehler mit den alten Platten und den nagelneuen. Wie gesagt, ich habe alles getauscht, nur noch nicht die backplanes und die kleine Cockpitplatine bzw. den Kabelbaum. :)

Nein. Das heißt nur, dass das BIOS eine invalide ACPI-Tabelle generiert und der Parser drum herum werkeln muss. Da das System startet ist die Meldung harmlos.
Erfahrungstechnisch gut zu wissen...ausschließen ist hier sehr gut. :)

Ich hatte das hier vorhin überlesen:
Der Fokus liegt auf zwischen 3:00 und 3:08, da ists passiert.
Um 3 Uhr Nachts laufen die täglichen Periodic-Scripte. Das riecht nach etwas mehr als Zufall. Sie sind in der /etc/crontab definiert. Du könntest den täglichen 3 Uhr lauf mal manuell anschieben, vielleicht auch mehrmals und schauen, ob du die Kiste damit gecrasht bekommst:

Hatte den daily und den weekly heute morgen schon mehrfach problemlos laufen lassen, war die Rangehensweise der Leute im englischen BSD-Forum. Weil die liefen, war ich enttäuscht, zumal viele Bugs in Kombination mit geli+zfs hatten.

Habs jetzt nochmals gestartet..
...und ist durch nach 4-5 Minuten. Kein crash, keine Meldung, auch nicht auf dmesg.

Jetzt periodic weekly....
und ist auch problemlos durch.

Da das ja auf dem zroot läuft und ich ursprünglich SATA1 und SATA2 Platten im pool gemischt zusammengeschmissen hatte, hatte ich noch den Funken Hoffnung, dass es daran lag. Die eine Platte davon konnte nichtmal NCQ...ggf. hat sich der Controller daran verschluckt.

Jetzt hängen 2x gleiche Platten dran, beide SATA2, beide können NCQ. ST3750640NS -> Seagate Barracude ES

Strange indeed! Platten hatteste ja alte und neue drin, also könnte man die ausschließen. Controller und Stromversorgung vom Board is aber halt immer der/die gleiche, da ja festgelötet vom Board kommend. Wenn das Board schon so lang im Einsatz war... da reicht im Prinzip _ein_ Kondensator an der richtigen Stelle irgendwo, welcher ab und an mal kurzschließt, je nach Lastsituation (muss ned mal unter Voll-Last sein), und kurz ne u-Sekunde hernach gehts wieder, da rebootet die Maschine schon wieder...
Sie scheint ja auch nix diesbezgl ins Log zu schreiben, also würds für nen schnellen Tod sprechen...
Deswegen wärs mal von Interesse, obs mit nem anderen OS auch sporadisch abraucht.

Hatteste schon nur mal mit _einer_ Platte probiert?

Hat die Mühle eigentlich ECC Memory? Wenn Speicherriegel spinnen, kanns auch mal ganz lustige Effekte zu Tage fördern. Hatteste memtest schon mal drauf am laufen?

Ja, ist ECC-RAM. Von den Riegeln hab ich 6x die gleichen. Weil es quadranked sind, gehen maximal 2 Riegel aufs Board. Wurden schon umgesteckt, memtest lief immer durch.

Ich hab das gleiche Mainboard mittlerweile 3x hier. 1x eingebaut, 2x rumliegen. Wurde auch schon ausgetauscht und umgesteckt.
Ein anderes Netzteil habe ich auch schon dran gehabt.

Ich hab immer eine Komponente ausgetauscht, abgewartet und den Server regulär benutzt und beim Crashfall die nächste in Betracht kommende Komponente ausgetauscht.

Hintergrund dazu:
Der Grundgedanke war, dass ich mir endlich eine preislich mich nicht ruinierende und 'echte' Serverhardware anschaffe. Und dann alles baugleich auch für meinen Paps besorge + die ganze Ausstattung nochmal für schnellen Ersatz auf Halde legen. Der Server war Gebrauchtware ohne Garantie (mir aber wurscht, ich bin FiSi und bei dem Kaufpreis konnte man einfach nichts falsch machen, da bekommt man nichtmal ein Gehäuse für ;)). Also dann: FreeBSD lief darauf, eben nur die sporadischen Crashs...und dann eben eine Komponente nach der anderen nachgekauft und fleißig getestet. Ziel war sowieso, alles 3x zu haben. Dh. ich hab jetzt 3x das Mainboard, 6x Speicherriegel und 3x Opterons (4284, 4280 und den 4234), 2 Netzteile uswusf. alle Teile gebraucht ohne Garantie, aus unterschiedlichen Quellen...dh. ich kann ausschließen, dass mir wer absichtlich oder unabsichtlich kaputten Schrott verkauft hat, weil ich immer den gleichen Fehler habe. ;)

Hatteste schon nur mal mit _einer_ Platte probiert?
Ungern, aber das werd ich auch noch unternehmen, wenn nichts hilft.

Damit kannst du das Setting nicht nachstellen. Der cronjob läuft in der Nacht und nicht in einer interaktiven Shell.
Ich empfehle dir, den periodic-cronjob einfach mal in der crontab zu verschieben:

Wenn dir die Kiste dann immer um 4 abranzt, ist periodic mit hoher Warscheinlichkeit der Auslöser. Dann würde ich auf ein Problem beim Powermanagement bei den Platten o.ä. tippen.

Sehr guter Tipp, ich hab den cronjob jetzt mal auf 14 Uhr gelegt, da bin ich vorerst mal anwesend.

Letze Nacht lief er aber durch (inkl. cronjob auf 3).

Ich kann einen Teilerfolg vermelden.

Die 3 alten gemischten Platten hatte ich nun rumliegen...hab mir eins der Ersatzboards genommen und nacheinander FreeBSD drauf installiert und bissl rumgespielt.
Bei der einen Platte ST3808110AS ists mehrfach und unterschiedlich abgesemmelt. Der beste Beweis, dass man sich weder auf eine Festplatte noch auf SMART verlassen kann. :D:D:D
