Immerhin stehen die Passwörter in RIPE auch offen da und bei der Umfrage würde ich sagen, dass man alle verfügbaren Zeichen mit ner Länge von 10+ nehmen sollte.

Mach doch :p Ich glaube... ich wuerde da auch mit machen :D Da ich meine System-Passwoerter nirgends im Internet verwende, kann man damit schliessich nix anfangen wenn man es entschluesselt hat ;) Und die IP aendert sich ja taeglich und auser den Mods / Admins kann hier eh niemand die IP's sehen um ein login zu veruschen :p Also wo sollte das Problem bei dem Thread sein? :ugly:

SMT bringt in der aktuellen Version 3 (Netburst -> 1; Nehalem und Abkömmlinge 2; Sandy Bridge -> 3) einiges. Auf meinen Core i7 2600k locker mal 20 bis 30 Prozent Mehrleistung. In der Praxis beschränkt sich das aber auf zwei Fälle. Das erschließt sich schon durch das Funktionsprinzip:
1. Das Programm nutzt symmetrische Threads. D.h. es ist ihm egal, welcher Thread die Arbeit macht, Hauptsache sie wird gemacht. Ein gutes Beispiel ist x264. 8 Threads sind einfach mehr als 4, selbst wenn die Hälfte davon nur per SMT läuft.
2. Man hat dicke, das System auslastende Threads in Anzahl der Kerne und einige wenige kaum Rechenleistung benötigende Anwendungen. Das klassische Beispiel ist Filmencoder + Browser. Der Browser nutzt die logischen Kerne, der Encoder die echten.
Viele Testseiten meinen noch immer, dass SMT nicht bringen würde, da sie oft ganz andere Anwendungsfälle testen. Das sind zum Beispiel Spiele mit oftmals vielen, asymetrischen Threads. Dazu kommt, dass Intels aktuelles SMT eigentlich nur dann negativen Einfluss hat, wenn der Scheduler mit der Topologie nicht klarkommt oder die Anwendung meint selbst schedulen zu müssen. Zumindet der Scheduler ist unter aktuellen Linux-Kernel, FreeBSD und Windows 7 mit SP1 kein Problem mehr...

Allerdings muss ich auch sagen, dass mit CMT besser gefällt. Sowohl in der Theorie, als auch in der praktischen Anwendungen. Würde mich auch nicht wundern, wenn Intel irgendwann - evtl. schon mit Haswell? - SMT zu Gunsten von CMT oder einer Kombination der beiden Techniken fallen lässt.

Das System hat meinen "8.2 Megapatch" drin: http://deponie.yamagi.org/freebsd/tmp/freebsd_8.2_complete.diff Bringt u.a. TRIM, kleinere Bugfixes, meinen leicht verbesserten und überarbeiteten snd_envy24ht, funktionierenden if_age und eben auch vollständige Unterstützung für die Sandy Bridge Plattform in Form des Watchdogs, SMBus und so weiter und so fort.

Keine Ahnung, was CMT ist. Was ich cool fände, wäre wenn der Prozessor selbst die Threads Kernen zuweist und damit die Topologie-Optimierung übernimmt.

CMT ist "Cluster MultiThreading". Dabei gibt's für jeden Thread einige Einheiten exklusiv, andere Einheiten werden zwischen den Threads geteilt. AMDs Bulldozer hat z.B. zwei eigene ALU für jeden Thread, jeweils zwei Threads teilen sich aber Frontend, FPU und Caches. Der Vorteil ist, dass man gegenüber SMT - wo alle Einheiten geteilt werden - nur geringfügig mehr Chipfläche benötigt, aber deutlich mehr Leistung realisieren kann. Sun plante in seinen UltraSPARC T auch so etwas, aber ob sie das am Ende umgesetzt haben, weiß ich nicht.
